Collect and present different types of data using forms
Use a spreadsheet
What do we have in common?
We have many things that are different, but we have many things the same. To find out about the heritage of the people in our class, we can collect some data.
Collecting data in a spreadsheet We can use a spreadsheet (like Numbers) to collect data. Download the "Our Class Heritage" Numbers file. Create a new form and collect some data about the heritage of your classmates.
Collaborating to collect data We used Numbers to collect our own data from our classmates. We can also use a form to collect data from many people and bring it together. When we work together, it is called collaborating. Use the Google Form to add data about your own heritage. The Google Form will collect everyone's data so we can see it together.
Showing the data in different ways Data can be shown in different ways, such as numbers, text, images and sound. Use the data from the forms and spreadsheets to make a report about our class heritage.
Add numbers to the world map to show how many people have heritage from each region.
Use some graphs (charts) and add audio to explain what they tell us about the different people in our class.
Take a photo with some friends. Add the image to the last slide with some audio that explains what Harmony Day means to you.
Harmony Day is celebrated on the 21st March. Harmony Day is a special day to celebrate our cultural diversity. This means that we recognise that people in Australia came from many different backgrounds. We came from different countries. We have different religions. We eat different foods. We like different music. But we can all live in harmony because we all love Australia.
I am, You are, We are Australian
I came from the dream-time, From the dusty red-soil plains. I am the ancient heart, The keeper of the flame. I stood upon the rocky shores, I watched the tall ships come, For forty thousand years I've been The first Australian. I came upon the prison ship, Bowed down by iron chains, I fought the land, endured the lash, And waited for the rains. I'm a settler, I'm a farmer's wife On a dry and barren run, A convict, then a free man, I became Australian. I'm the daughter of a digger Who sought the mother lode. The girl became a woman On the long and dusty road. I'm a child of the Depression, I saw the good times come, I'm a bushie, I'm a battler, I am Australian. We are one, but we are many, And from all the lands on earth we come. We'll share a dream and sing with one voice, "I am, you are, we are Australian"
